Azure Antoinette is a poet/spoken word artist, freelance photographer, and youth literacy advocate. As a poet/writer Azure Antoinette has been commissioned to write for the First Lady of California - Maria Shriver, Tuskegee Airmen Col. Lee Archer, American Cancer Society just to name a few. A published author, her first book titled “Bittersweet” was released in May 2009. Her sophomore collection of poetry is due in stores in 2011. It is titled “for the sake of BREVITY”. In 2010, Azure Antoinette opened the Grand Finale for the Minerva Awards at the Women’s Conference, hosted by Maria Shriver. Oprah Winfrey, who was among the evenings honorees, stated “wow, you (Antoinette) are amazing, thank you…” Antoinette has shared the stage with artists/performers such as Kenny Lattimore, Rudy Francisco, James Avery, Danny Glover, Vanessa A. Williams, Ben Guillory, CCH Pounder, Elliott Gould & Delroy Lindo. Her poetic work has been used in film and commercial medias. She has performed all over Southern California and including but not limited to, 75 California high schools, the Bowery Poetry Club (NYC), Nike, American Cancer Society, SEIU, USC, LA Times Festival of Books (UCLA), University of Arizona, Barnes and Noble (The Grove), Mountain Bar, Pan African Film Festival, Theatre of Note, LA Eco Arts Tour, Downtown LA Art Walk, Beyond Baroque, Dutton’s Bookstore (Brentwood), FORD Models, Elephant Theater, A World of Imagination, Transplant Collective and Knightsbridge Theater, UCLA, HBO’s Brave New Voices, SLS Hotel, and many more! Currently Antoinette lends her time to several youth based programs in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Ca.In 2010, she accepted a position with Forgiving For Living, Inc. as the Interim Program Director. FFL Forgiving For Living, Inc. aims to inspire and empower victims of abuse (verbal, physical and mental), abandonment and low self-esteem by equipping individuals with the necessary skills and resources to lead productive and fulfilling lives. Additionally Antoinette currently works with In a Perfect World and Image of Change – two highly progressive non-profits dealing with youth community activism and sports philanthropy. From 2007 to 2010 Azure Antoinette was heavily involved with Get Lit – Words Ignite, a teen literacy non-profit. There she spent countless hours performing for and mentoring Los Angeles youth. She describes her career “as that of a dream; it is my life’s work.”In 2006 Antoinette started to take a serious interest in photography began photographing city and urban scape around Los Angeles, in 2008 Antoinette launched EGAMI (image spelled backward) and immersed herself in the urban art exhibit circuit by hanging in local group shows and curating/producing with ArtShow LA. EGAMI has taken an extreme interest in the guerilla art scene and fallen head over heels with the movement of graffiti and the urban scape. In 2009, Antoinette founded MEDIUM, a multi-medium art showcase/event collective with Maygen Nicholson & Jillian Laub. The first MEDIUM event was a wild success, housed in the heart of downtown LA. “It is a dream realized to bring artists of all walks together.” MEDIUM was named #9 event of 2009 by the Industry Voice.
